USA - Some Wyoming fans crossed that line Wednesday night when they chanted “alcoholic” at Colorado State coach Larry Eustachy, according to Ben Frederickson of the Casper Star Tribune in Wyoming.  Eustachy was fired from Iowa State in 2003 after he was photographed drinking with undergraduates. He admitted he was an functioning alcoholic — “probably the best in the country at it” — and sought treatment. He was quickly hired at Southern Miss and spent eight years there before moving to Colorado State last spring.  This April, Eustachy will mark 10 years of sobriety, he says.  The chant in Wyoming started before halftime of the game in Laramie. The Cowboys had been trailing for most of the game and would go on to lose 78-56.

How fucking soft have we become as a country?  This is D1 sports!   We’re still complaining about mean student sections?   Seriously?  Fans being too insensitive with their chants?    Listen there is one topic and one topic only that should be off limits and that’s dead or dying family members.  That shit is mean.  But arrests, drug issues, academic issues, scandals, all the stuff in the public eye- that’s fair game.  You signed up for it.  The hostile crowds and the relentless hecklers are all what build the atmosphere.  Especially when you’re a coach and you get paid the big bucks to handle it.  Bottom line is in a landscape where students spend hours upon hours researching your entire life, your likes and dislikes, your innermost fears,  your family history, your girlfriend’s entire history…don’t be surprised when they bring up one of the most public and infamous firings in college hoops history.
