Fox News- University of Florida cheerleaders have been grounded. UF officials told cheerleaders on Nov. 16 they could no longer perform acrobatic stunts and tumble during games. The decision came days after an Orlando Magic cheerleader was injured during a performance at a basketball game. The Gainesville Sun reports university officials said they took a proactive stance “to protect the cheerleaders” instead of waiting for a tragedy to occur. Cheerleaders disappointed that they couldn’t tumble at their last home game of the season took their protest to social media, tweeting under the hashtag (hash)Unground UFCheer. Athletic association spokesman Steve McClain told The Sun that the danger associated with acrobatic stunts is “simply not worth the risk to the cheerleaders or to the University of Florida.”

What is Florida thinking here? It’s the last game of the season against one of their one biggest rivals and they think they’re going to get a victory without the acrobatic stylings of their cheerleading team? Risky move. Just because some chick in the NBA accidentally decided to land on her head instead of her feet doesn’t mean we have to ruin the fun for everyone. Cheerleading is a sport according to any cheerleader that you ask. I know what they say must be true because way too many cheerleaders wear knee braces, and everybody knows that only athletes wear knee braces. So obviously they know the risks involved. It ultimately comes down to winning the game, and it helps to have the crowd on your side. Do you think people are going to get pumped up because of unoffensive chants and giant signs and megaphones? Fuck no. People get excited by the prospecting of seeing up a cheerleader’s skirt or, if that fails, watching her land on the ground in a way she wasn’t supposed to. Maybe while the AD is on his new health kick he should go tell Muschamp that he’s not allowed to run any plays this week unless they involve taking a knee. I bet that goes over well. #UngroundUFCheer.
