ESPNBusinesses looking for attention know how to get it these days: tie it to Manti Te’o, the Notre Dame linebacker in the midst of a fake girlfriend scandal.  As part of the promotion in late May, the first 1,000 fans would get an empty bobblehead box, there will be a pretend kiss cam for fans to kiss their imaginary friends and there will be an imaginary food fight in the kids’ area, as well as an air guitar contest.  Late Thursday evening, an independent baseball team, the Florence (Ky.) Freedom, announced it would have “Manti Te’o Girlfriend Bobblehead Day.”  As part of the promotion in late May, the first 1,000 fans will get an empty bobblehead box, there will be a pretend kiss cam for fans to kiss their imaginary friends and there will be an imaginary food fight in the kids’ area, as well as an air guitar contest.

Couple of things here.   1) How lame is a Manti Te’o Girlfriend Bobblehead Day at the end of fucking May going to be?   Going to be a bunch of people racking their brains trying to remember what the joke is and if they used to think it was funny when they heard it 3 months ago.    Internet world we live in today stories have a shelf life of like 1 or 2 weeks.  Gigantic stories like this maybe 1 month.  Just don’t think this is going to be the laugh riot they expect it to be 3 and a half months from now.  I’m already out of gas blogging about it.     2)   Kind of out of place for ESPN to be posting this right?  Poking fun at Manti Te’o, having a little laugh, how hilarious is this minor league team and their silly promotion.    Umm last I checked you guys got hoodwinked and embarrassed by this guy just like every other media outlet.  You got a team of professional paid journalists and you’re the leaders of the “what a hero this guy is” narrative without doing any fact checking.     They’re like the awkward guy at the party that doesn’t really know anybody but tries to fit in by making fun of people and everyone is just kind of like uhh who brought him, which I guess is fitting since it’s a Rovell article.
