This is not a particularly original post. I’m not going to sit here acting like I’m the first person to observe that it tis the season for people to post their grades and GPAs on various social networking sites. I know I’m probably preaching to the choir here. Maybe if I had the initiative/ability to have a GPA to brag about I’d be doing it along with everyone else. But instead I’ve decided to focus most of my energy in college to going online and spouting out relatively uninformed opinions on a semi-daily basis, and every once in a while I’m going to take advantage of this for the greater good of humanity. So, with that being said: no one who follows you online gives a shit about what your final grades are. No one. No, not them. And not them either. No one. Anyone who has been to college knows that in most cases you need to make an active effort to fail a class. In the end, the fact that you passed in really the only thing that matters. C’s don’t get degrees, D-’s get degrees. It’s not even the fact that most of the people doing this seem to be the fuck ups from high school that went to one of those state schools you don’t even know exists and now want people to be impressed by their 3.5 in the criminal justice program. Good for them. Am I slightly more impressed by the kid from an Ivy League school who is still perfect after all these years? Absolutely. But I still don’t care. If you really have to let people know make a fucking Christmas card with your transcript in an ugly sweater and send it out to your gay uncle and his cats, because even though he doesn’t care at least it will distract him from his life for a couple of seconds. And if you somehow find yourself Instagramming your grades and about to post it on Facebook so everyone can see, stop, don’t, and post this instead. We’ve got to start somewhere.
