AUBURN – The Auburn football program has contracted with a private security firm to help enforce player curfews, an official with the company confirmed to The Advertiser. Stanley Dallas, the Auburn Regional Manager of the Event Operations Group, confirmed members of his staff are working in conjunction with members of Auburn’s football player development department to “enforce” player curfews throughout the week.
Curfews are a common practice on the evenings before games but Auburn instituted a nightly curfew, a far more rare practice, and the use of paid personnel from a private security firm to assist in enforcing a curfew may be unprecedented. “We always do what’s in the best interest of our team,” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said. “We have a curfew check and we have to employ people to help us with some of the kids off campus. Other than that I’m not going into any details of any of that.
Has anybody had more of a rollercoaster coaching at one school than Gene Chizik? From getting booed and heckled getting off the plane to accept the job, to winning a national title with a Heisman winning quarterback, to 2-7 and being practically run out of town. Lowest lows and uppest ups. Anyway I got to imagine if you’re trying to hold on to your job and stay in the good graces of your team, the best way to go about that probably wouldn’t be hiring a secret Gestapo to enforce bed time. Not really trust building. And not even just for game days. For every night of the week. Spying on you making sure you’re tucked into bed with your binky and blankey. Should go over pretty well. Hey we may not be winning any games, we might completely suck at football without Cam Newton, but nobody and I mean NOBODY is going to blame it on not getting 8 hours of sleep if Gene Chizik has anything to say about it. REM Cycles like a motherfucker.
