Does This Look Like The Face Of A Minnesota Hoops Fan Who Got In A 3 Hour Standoff With SWAT Team After Threatening To Shoot A Utility Worker Who Was Listening To Sports Radio Too Loud And Giving Away The Score To The Gopher’s Game He DVR’ed?
Star Trib – An Eagan man really didn’t want to know how a Gophers basketball game ended before he’d had a chance to watch it on tape. So much so that when a utility contractor working outside his home blared a sports-talk radio station that gave away the outcome, he became infuriated, threatened to shoot the worker, and then holed himself up inside his house, leading to a standoff of more than 3 hours with a SWAT team and police negotiators. Dan Drobac, 32, was charged Thursday in Dakota County District Court with felony terroristic threats.
According to the criminal complaint, the contractor told police she was working on a utility box and playing the sports station KFAN loudly so she could hear it while she worked. She said Drobac yelled at her, then came out of the house screaming, “I’m not kidding. I’m going to [expletive] shoot you,” the complaint said. Officers found a large kitchen knife in the snow about 10 feet from the utility box, the complaint said.
Drobac told police that he was watching the Gophers game from the previous evening, which he’d recorded, when he heard the contractor’s radio. He admitted he was upset because the announcers were talking about the outcome of the game.
1000% on Dan Drobac’s side here. Don’t care if he chucked a knife at this utility worker, threatened to shoot her or literally did shoot her. Because the fact of the matter is there’s just nothing worse than somebody spoiling your TV show for you before you get a chance to watch it. Those scumbags on Twitter and Facebook who post like real-time live updates of the show they’re watching from 8-9 PM with commercials while normal people are out having a life waiting to watch it in the morning. Should be a 3 day grace period at the very least or until Sunday night before you can start talking about crucial plot points of an ongoing show in my opinion. Just give everyone a chance man, that’s all we ask. And yeah I know this doesn’t always apply to sports but if the world’s #1 Minnesota Gophers fan wants to sit in his own home and catch up on last night’s game he should be able to do that without your blaring KFAN right in his fucking eardrum. Sorry he has a job that isn’t fixing power lines listening to sports radio bro.
PS – On the flip side I can’t fucking stand people who pull this shit with like decades-old TV shows. Pull a knife on you because you mentioned how you hated the ending of LOST and they’ve been waiting to catch up on it on Netflix. Have the SWAT team show up for a 3 hour standoff because you made a joke about a main twist in 24 or the Sopranos or something. Like find a time to watch it asshole. Statute of limitations has expired. They’re all in purgatory waiting to join up to go to Heaven, Jack Bauer doesn’t die, and the screen goes black and everyone’s pissed about it. There now you can shut up.
