BEIJING — Chinese police have detained more than 500 people from a fringe Christian group for spreading rumors about the world’s impending end, state media reported Tuesday. In western China’s Qinghai province alone, police arrested more than 400 members from the religious cult group, state-run China Central Television said Tuesday. Police seized leaflets, video discs, books and other apocalyptic materials in the recent arrests of more than 500 people across eight provinces and regions, from the prosperous east coast to less developed western China, state media reports said. The detentions come ahead of Friday, Dec. 21 – a date some say the Mayans prophesized would be the end of the world and which was the subject of the apocalyptic movie “2012.”
I don’t really get why China gets such a bad rep. From what I remember in history class everyone was always saying communism is so bad and all that hullaballoo, so I guess I’m just missing why? Arrest people for being stupid. Sounds pretty perfect to me. You think camping out on Wall Street in a tent will change things? That’s a jailing. You think protesting childrens’ funerals who died in a terrible massacre is cool? That’s a jailing. You think because some people got bored of drawing calendars on cave walls thousands of years ago means it’s the end of the world on Friday? Well to quote Feitelberg welcome to jail city, population: you. Seriously say what you will about communism but I’m pretty sure they nailed this part. America would be a much better place if we could just lock up all the annoying lunatics for being lunatics and be done with it. But of course we’ll just continue being soft ass pussies and using shit like “freedom of speech” and democracy and a legal system and just sit here waiting for China to march in and kick our dicks in.
